About
soversanity.com is a community catalog of the big-tech services most of us use and the privacy-respecting alternatives that can replace them. Every entry lists what works, what doesn't, and what you give up if you switch. Migration guides cover the moves that are actually difficult.
What you'll find here
- Alternatives organized by category. Each entry shows cost model, jurisdiction, licensing, self-hosting status, and the real downsides next to the upsides.
- Guides that lead with prerequisites, verification, and rollback before the steps themselves. Each one is dated.
- Comments and binary votes: works for me, or didn't work. Real signal from people who tried it. No fake five-star ratings.
How entries get in
Anyone can propose a service or guide on the Contribute page. A single moderator reviews submissions, fact-checks them, and either publishes or sends notes back. No sponsored placements, no algorithmic ranking. The catalog is edited.
Privacy
What this site does and doesn't do with your data:
- No accounts. You don't register to read, vote, or comment.
- No cross-site tracking. No tracking pixels, no embedded social widgets, no third-party fonts.
- User-uploaded screenshots are stored in Vercel Blob, the same vendor that runs our hosting. Camera metadata (EXIF) is stripped server-side before storage. Original filenames are discarded; files are stored under a random UUID.
- Self-check results are stored anonymized to learn what people actually use. No IP, no email, no cookie. The rows are just the answers and any open-text replies you chose to write.
If anything on the site contradicts this, it's a bug. Tell us.
